As a young boy I knew for a fact I wanted to join my older brothers at the local Ice Hockey club, so I started taking skating lessons. After a while however I felt more drawn towards Figure skating. So at the age of 5 I joined Figure Skating club “Nieuw Olympia Turnhout”. 5 more years later, nervous to the bone I entered my first competition. That’s when Carine Herrygers saw me and decided to work with me. She’s been my coach ever since… almost 15 years. Carine is giving me the confidence I need and we know each other through and through. To me Carine is irreplaceable.
2008 a major setback, a severe groin injury kept me off Ice for months. In that period however I realized, figure skating was my passion for life. I would do just anything to get back on the Ice and get to the top. We intensified my train-ing schedule and I Participated in some International Camps. The result was beyond expectations. I even won the Belgium championship in junior category. So I was went to several international competitions from which I took home medal after medal. My International career had started and I made a huge step towards my ultimate dream: the Olympic winter games in Sochi.
I participated in a Junior World Championship twice, and as a Senior I participated in 5 European and 4 World Championships and of course as a cherry on the cake I made it to Sochi 2014 to represent Belgium at Figure Skating. Although I placed 16th, it felt like victory and I just know… there is more to come.
Last season I missed out a lot due to knee surgery. But giving blood, sweat and tears, I made it back, stronger and better than ever, I even smashed my Personal Best. I’m getting ready to represent Belgium in Pyeongchang in 2018 and this time my sister will join me too, for her first Olympic performance.
